Vajpayee's death: Mauritius to fly at half-mast national flag

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IBNS): In a rare gesture, the Mauritius Government has decided to fly at half-mast both Indian and Mauritian flags as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who died on Thursday.

" Joining us in our moment of grief! In an unprecedented gesture, the Government of #Mauritius has decided that both Indian and Mauritian flag will fly half-mast on government buildings today as a mark of respect following the sad demise of former PM Vajpayee," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth conveyed has also conveyed his condolences at the death of Vajpayee.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jugnauth described Vajpayee as one who "shaped the destiny of India", a "bold leader" who had "empathy for the common man" and a "model" that "continues to inspire".

"Today as India shines as a beacon of progress and development on the global stage, we can not forget the strong and able stewardship of Shri Vajpayee. His was a leadership characterised by determination, perseverance, fairness and equity," he said.

"He will remain a mentor not only for politicians in India but across the world," Jugnauth said.
