Uttarakhand bus mishap kills 48, PM Modi expresses grief

Nainital, July 1 (IBNS): At least 48 people were killed when their bus fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand's Paudi Garhwal district on Sunday, reports said.

The accident took place on the Pipali-Bhoan motorway in Pauri Garhwal's Nainidanda block.

Besides local police, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were engaged in rescue operations.

The bus was reportedly carrying 59 passengers.

The exact cause of the mishap is not known so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the mishap.

PMO India tweeted: "Extremely saddened by the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest. Rescue operations are underway and authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site."
