Uttar Pradesh: Three die after Google map leads their car to unfinished flyover in Bareilly

Misguided by Google Maps to an under-construction bridge, at least three people died after their car plunged into a river in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

The incident happened in Bareilly district.

The deceased were travelling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding.

They were relying on Google Maps to reach the venue but the GPS guided them to an under-construction flyover.

The car dropped into the Ramganga river from a height of 50 feet.

After spotting blood flowing in the river, locals recovered the car on Sunday morning and found the three bodies.

Police later reached the spot and took the bodies for post-mortem examination.

"At 9:30 am today, a damaged car was found on the river Ramganga. Police were informed and arrived at the spot. When the police arrived, they saw a Wagon R, which was possibly hired as a taxi, on the river. The car went to the incomplete bridge and fell into a river from there," police told India Today.

Police identified two victims as Amit and Vivek. One seriously injured passenger said Google Maps led them to the unfinished bridge.

Police are also investigating the lack of safety measures or warning about the lurking danger at the site.
