Badaun (UP): Tension gripped Majhiya village under civil lines police station on Saturday after a statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was vandalised by some anti-social elements, police sources said here.

Police sources told UNI the statue of Dr Ambedkar was on a road leading to the village.

"On Saturday when the people came out for daily chores they found that the statue was damaged after which the police were informed," they said.

Police sources said a large number of people gathered on the spot and demanded arrest of anti-social elements involved in the incident and stern action be taken against them.

Superintendent of Police (City) Amit Kishore Shrivastava said a police team was sent to the spot immediately after getting the information.

"The incident is being probed by the police and a case has been lodged against unidentified persons. Strict action will be taken against elements spreading anarchy," he said.
