Uphaar tragedy: Ansals fined 60 crores

New Delhi, Aug 19 (IBNS): In a significant verdict, the Supreme Court on Wednesday fined real estate barons Sushil and Gopal Ansal Rs. 60 crore in connection with the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy case.

The have been given three months time to submit the fine.

The court said it will be utilised by the Delhi government.

Sushil and Gopal Ansal were not given any jail term by the court

Several years back, they had served a few months each in prison.

Neelam Krishnamurthy, who lost her children in the tragedy told reporters that she was 'disappointed' with the verdict.

A massive fire at the at Uphaar Cinema in Delhi in 1997 had killed 59 people and left several others injured.

Ansals owned the theatre.
