Update on rural electrification project of union government

New Delhi, May 9 (IBNS) In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address to the nation in India where he said that the government will electrify all the 18,452 electrified villages in 100o0 days (by May 1, 2018), till date 7,654 villages have been electrified, according to a government announcement.

According to the Ministry of Power, the project has been taken on mission mode and strategy for electrification consists of squeezing the implementation schedule to 12 months and also dividing village electrification process in 12 Stage milestones with defined timelines for monitoring.

Out of the remaining 10,798 villages, 445 villages are uninhabited; 6,989 villages are to be electrified through grid, 2,977 villages to be electrified through off- grid where grid solutions are out of reach due to geographical barriers and 387 villages are to be electrified by the state governments.

Between April 2015 and August 14, 2015, 1654 villages were electrified. 

 
After taking the initiative by the Government of India on mission mode, 6,000 additional villages have been electrified from August  15, 2015 to May 8 , 2016.   

Between May 2 and 8, 105 villages have been electrified across the country under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
