UP poll: Rahul, Akhilesh hold joint media address, say alliance will win 300 plus seats

Lucknow, Jan 29 (IBNS): Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, state Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi held a joint press conference for the first time on Sunday where they said that their alliance will bag over 300 of the state's 403 seats.


While speaking to media, Rahul said the alliance if formed for "progress, prosperity and peace" and it is not an opportunistic one.

"We want to stop the aggression that RSS-BJP is spreading and the false promises they are giving," the Congress leader said.

Rahul said the alliance of Akhilesh's Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress intends to give the youth of UP a new path, a new politics.

"Its a historical alliance. Samajwadi Party and Congress will form government in UP," said he.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh said, "Rahul and I are like the two wheels of the same cycle."

He said the alliance is that of people and it will make developmental work faster.

"Cycle and Hand is a great combination," said Akhilesh.

Akhilesh Yadav's party has allied with the Congress against Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party in the UP state elections.
