Siliguri/IBNS: In a setback for the grand old party, two Congress leaders from Uttar Pradesh joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) here Monday.

Rajeshpati Tripathi and Laliteshpati Tripathi, the father-son duo, joined the TMC in presence of party supremo Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Rajeshpati Tripathi is an ex-MLC and the grandson of former CM Kamalapati Tripathi.

Laliteshpati Tripathi is former Uttar Pradesh Congress vice-president and former MLA from Marihan, (Mirzapur), Uttar Pradesh (2012-2017). He is the great grandson of former UP CM Kamalapati Tripathi.

After wresting power in West Bengal for the third consecutive time, the TMC has kicked the expansion button with an aim to go national.

In a recent bypoll campaign, Abhishek Banerjee said, "In 10-15 states, TMC will have a working committee soon."

We will fight in Tripura, Assam, Goa, said the TMC number two man.

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in early 2022.
