Two students killed, three injured in cross firing between Assam Rifles and NSCN(Khaplang) militants along Indo-Myanmar border

Guwahati, July 17 (IBNS): At least two students were killed and three others, including two security personnel, were injured during cross firing between Assam Rifles and suspected NSCN(Khaplang) militants in Phek district of Nagaland along Myanmar border on Thursday night, officials said on Friday.

A top official of Assam Rifles said the incident took place at Phor area in the bordering district with Myanmar when troops of Assam Rifles were bringing the bodies of two NSCN(Khaplang) militants from the encounter spot.

A group of villagers from the remote area had stopped the paramilitary convoy and demanded that the bodies be handed over to them.

While discussion between the security personnel and villagers was in progress, suspected NSCN(Khaplang) militants had fired at the Assam Rifles jawans and exchanged bullets took place.

During the cross firing, two students were killed and three including an officer and a jawan of Assam Rifles were injured.

The injured persons were rushed to nearest hospital.

Assam Rifles have launched a massive operation against the militants in the remote bordering areas in the state.

On Thursday, two NSCN(Khaplang) militants were killed in a fierce gun fight with security forces at Avangkhu area in Phek district.

Security personnel had recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from the deceased militants.
