Two minor girl students died in Arunachal Pradesh landslide incident

Guwahati, July 11 (IBNS): Two minor girl students died and one injured after a wall of the school hostel collapsed in a landslide incident in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at Lumlai area in Tawang where heavy landslide following torrential rain caused damage to the Namtsering Residential School hostel wall.

Three girl students of the residential school were injured following the wall collapsed.

The injured girls identified as 11-year-old Rinchin Lhamu, 12-year-old Genden Wangmu and 13-year-old Sange Pema were rushed to Tawang district hospital, but two among them had succumbed to their injuries.

Heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides hammered several parts of Arunachal Pradesh in past 72 hours and washed away several dwelling houses, restaurant, bridges, roads.

According to the Arunachal Pradesh government, seven dwelling houses were completely damaged and few of them were washed away due to cloud burst at Kasu area under Singsung sub-division in West Kameng district on July 8 evening.

Following the flash floods and landslides, the West Kameng district administration has closed the Balipara to Tawang via Charduar road for traffic movement and asked hundreds of passengers who stranded on both side of the road to take the Kalaktang-Rowta road to reach their destinations.

On the other hand, several landslide incidents have been reported at Naharlagun, Itanagar and other parts of the state triggered by heavy rainfall.

The Roing-Anini road has been damaged at various points following the rains.

The flood waters have washed away a portion of the road between Ruksin and Mirem-Bilat area in East Siang district.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has directed the district administration to take appropriate measures and carry out rescue operation and help the victims.
