Two Kolkata Police DCPs suspended over alleged remarks against Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari

Kolkata/IBNS: Two deputy commissioners of the Kolkata Police have been suspended for allegedly making objectionable remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, The Telegraph reported.

The officers were suspended after the alleged remarks, made when Adhikari was serving as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), came to the notice of the authorities.

Officers Placed Under Suspension

The suspended officers have been identified as:

  • Partha Pratim Das, Deputy Commissioner of Police (II), Port Division
  • Bidhan Saha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (III), North Division

According to the report, both officers were served suspension letters a few days ago.

Action Taken After Remarks Came to Light

Police initiated disciplinary action after learning about the alleged objectionable remarks made by the two officers against Adhikari during his tenure as the Leader of the Opposition.

The nature of the remarks has not been officially disclosed.

Adhikari Became Chief Minister in May

Suvendu Adhikari served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2021 to 2026 before leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to its maiden victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.

He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9, after the BJP formed its first-ever government in the state.
