Two groups clash in Golden Temple, leaves many injured
According to reports, people brandished swords, spears and sticks at each other.
The clashes reportedly followed an altercation between members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and those of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force during a ceremony organised to mark the 30th anniversary of Operation Bluestar.Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann demanded to address the gathering from the rostrum of Akal Takht, but was denied by SGPC officials, reports said.
Following this, the trouble started.Some media personnel were also allegedly manhandled.
The security has been tightened around the temple complex.The situation has been brought under control now.
In June 1984, more than 1,000 people were killed in Operation Bluestar, which was conducted to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.
The operation led to the eventual assassination of Indira Gandhi by her own Sikh bodyguards a few months later on Oct 31, 1984, triggering a nationwide anti-Sikh riots.
