Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD in Odisha on Friday suffered a jolt when two of its former MLAs resigned from the primary membership of the party.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and five-time MLA Dhaneswar Majhi, who was elected to Odisha Assembly from Narla (ST) seat twice as a Swatantra Party candidate between 1971 and 1974 and twice from Kesinga Assembly seat, in the 2000 and 2004 Assembly elections, tendered his resignation from the primary membership of BJD.

In 2014, he was elected to the State Assembly as a BJD candidate from the Narla Assembly seat.

Majhi joined the BJP in the state Party headquarters office here on Friday.

Another former BJD MLA Dambaru Sisa, who was elected to State Assembly from the Chitrokonda constituency as a BJD candidate in the 2014 elections, also resigned from the primary membership of the party.

During the day, former Congress MLA and also former minister Surendra Singh Bhoi and BJP sitting MLA from Nilagiri Sukant Kumar Nayak resigned from the primary memberships of their respective parties.

Bhoi had already joined the BJD while Nayak is likely to join the BJD soon.
