Two Assam Rifles jawans killed, six others injured in powerful IED blast in Manipur

Guwahati, Nov 13 (IBNS): A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast killed two Assam Rifles jawans and severely injured six others in Manipur’s Chandel district near Indo-Myanmar border on Monday morning.

According to the reports, the suspected militants had triggered the explosion at around 6.10 a.m. on a 18 Assam Rifles patrolling party.

The incident took place near the foot hill road at Maha Moni village in Chandel district.

The deceased jawans were identified as Rifleman Indra Singh and Sohan Lal.

The injured jawans Rifleman S.Sarkar, N. Shyam Kumar, Tirendra Nath Das, Govind Singh, Nirmal Roy were rushed to a hospital.

Meanwhile, army chopper has been called in to evacuate the area.

The suspected militants had triggered the explosion targeting the security personnel.

Militants had carried out a series of attacks in the north eastern Indian state on security forces this year.

On June 30 last, one Assam Rifles jawan was killed and three others were injured in an IED blast in Ukhrul district.

One jawan was killed and four others were injured in another blast on June 15 last in the state.
