Twitter exchange between Milind Deora and PM Modi makes Congress uncomfortable

Mumbai: Making the Congress uncomfortable, party leader Milind Deora exchanged a tweet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailing India's leadership in the US in the 21st century.

Praising Modi's Howdy, Modi! event in Houston on Sunday, Deora, a key Mumbai Congress leader, had tweeted, ".@PMOIndia’s Houston address was a momentous first for India’s soft power diplomacy. My father Murlibhai was one of the early architects of deeper Indo-US ties. @realDonaldTrump’s hospitality & recognition of Indian Americans’ contributions makes us proud"

Thanking Deora, Modi said on Twitter, "You are absolutely correct when you highlight my friend, late Murli Deora Ji’s commitment to strong ties with USA. He would have been really glad to see the strengthening of ties between our nations. The warmth and hospitality of @POTUS was outstanding."

Few weeks ago, Deora had said on a television channel he is sure that the Indian government is taking the necessary steps to bring back the sliding economy.

This is not the first time any Congress leader embarrassed the party since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s sweeping victory in 2019. Earlier, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said it was wrong to "demonise" Modi.

Also Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, said it is not right to criticise the Prime Minister blindly.

Modi and US President Donald Trump at a historic event in Houston, Texas jointly addressed the Indian diaspora.
