Twin blasts rock upper Assam, IED recovered

Guwahati, January 26 (IBNS) : Twin blasts rocked the oil rich Upper Assam town Digboi few hours ago the Republic Day celebrations on Monday, officials said.

According to reports, two low intensity bombs exploded in Digboi town in oil riches Upper Assam in the morning.

There are no reports of casualties in the explosions.

Tinsukia district SP Ananda Prakash Tiwari said suspected ULFA(I) militants had triggered the explosions.

"The first blast took place near a patrol pump in Digboi town and the second was near the railway line, " the top police official said.

The ULFA(I) has also claimed responsibility for the explosions.

Meanwhile, security forces on Monday morning recovered a powerful IED at Hatigarh area in Jorhat district averting  major explosion. The device was believed to have been kept buried by ULFA(I) militants.

Later, a bomb squad team had defused the IED.
