Chennai, Dec 24 (IBNS): In a major blow to AIADMK, TTV Dhinakaran, who contested as an independent candidate, clinched the crucial RK Nagar by-polls here on Sunday.

The seat was formerly represented by late ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa.

Sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinkaran won the by-poll by a margin of 40,000 votes.

Since counting started on Sunday morning, Dhinakaran had maintained a steady lead over his opponents.

The AIADMK retained the security deposit and ended second in the elections.

The RK Nagar seat had fallen vacant after demise of Jayalalithaa in Dec last year.
