Tripura : 40-year-old woman thrashed in public by mob, forced to wear a garland of shoes for alleged extramarital affair

Agartala, Sept 28 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old woman was publicly thrashed and forced to wear a garland of shoes by a group of villagers for allegedly having an extramarital affair with a man in Tripura’s Gomati district.

The incident took place at Purba Rangamati area under Amarpur sub-division in the district, where the woman, a mother of two children, was thrashed by a group of women and men, who later tied her to a tree.

The incident took place on September 26.

Following the thrashing, the mob smeared her face with ink and forced her to wear the shoe garland.

She, however, was rescued and admitted to a hospital after a team of policemen intervened upon hearing the news.

A case has been registered at Birganj police station following a formal complaint by the victim.

A woman has been arrested by Gomati district police in connection with the incident.
