Top Maoist leader shot dead by Jharkhand police

Ranchi, Sept 12 (IBNS):A top Maoist leader, Ashish Da, was killed in an encounter on Sunday, reports said.

The  encounter took place between the Maoist gang and police and paramilitary forces at  Borodih village under Palkot police station area in Gumla district, 100 kilometres from Ranchi, The Times of India reported.

Ashish carried a bounty of Rs. 25 lakhs on his head, the report added.

A police spokesperson was quoted by the daily as saying, "The jawans on his trail engaged him in the encounter when he started fleeing from the spot with other Maoists. The encounter continued for over 30 minutes."

Ashish was the mastermind behind many attacks which took place in Bihar and Jharkhand.
