TMC MPs Nusrat Jahan, Mimi Chakraborty take oath in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, June 25 (IBNS): After missing the initial dates to swear in as the parliamentarians, actress-turned politicians- Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty- took oath as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs in the Lok Sabha here on Tuesday.

Like her other party members, Jahan, dressed in saree, took oath in Bengali. Having acted in 16 films so far, she is one of the top contemporary actresses in the Bengali film industry, popularly known as Tollywood.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jahan, who was picked up by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a Lok Sabha candidate for the TMC, contested from West Bengal's Basirhat constituency and won by a margin of over three lakh votes.

After the Lok Sabha polls, Jahan went to Turkey to marry businessman Nikhil Jain. The two got married at a private ceremony in Bodrum away from media glares. It is because of her marriage ceremony, Jahan could not take oath as the MP in the Lok Sabha.

Chakraborty was fielded by TMC supremo Banerjee in iconic Jadavpur constituency of West Bengal. Defeating BJP's Anupam Hazra and CPI-M veteran and former Kolkata Mayor, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, by close to three lakh votes, Chakraborty, a leading Bengali actress, entered to the lower house of the parliament.

Chakraborty too went to Turkey to attend her close friend Jahan's wedding ceremony, missing the initial dates to take oath as the MP.

However, tough challenges are awaiting Jahan as her constituency Basirhat was on the boil days ago. In a clash between the TMC and the opponent BJP, two saffron outfit members were killed leading to an intense political slugfest in one of the most Muslim-dominated belt of the state.

Though the situation is now under control apparently, all eyes are on the TMC MP whether she visits her constituency soon or not.
