TMC MP from Ghatal Dev bats for striking doctors in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jun 14 (IBNS/UNI) Trinamool Congress leader Dev, who is also a popular Bengali film actor, on Friday came expressed solidarity with the protesting doctors and said the current situation must come to an end.

Dev is a Lok Sabha MP from Ghatal.

The cease work resorted by the junior medics at the NRS Hospital since Tuesday over assault on the two medics, fueled the state-wide agitation and beyond, began to rumble even in the ruling TMC as Municipal affirms minster Firhad Hakim's daughter Sabba Hakim in a post in her social media asked " Please question the government as in why the police officers posted in government hospitals do little to nothing to protect doctors?".

Firhad Hakim is considered a close confidante of chief minster Mamata Banerjee in the government as well in the party.

She was first among the TMC sympathizer to question the government stands on the striking medics.

Banerjee on Thursday while facing protest demonstrations and slogans by the junior medics at the SSKM Hospital warned that they would be evacuated from hostel or if necessary, ESMA envoke. This warning led the medics all over the State begin ceasework and hundred of them already served quit letters to the health authorities.

Dev, who had won from the Ghatal Lok Sabha seat in 2014 for the first time, today posted a protest saying why should the doctors be thrashed again and again. " We must ensure safety of the medics as million of people affected with various ailments are depending on them. Let good sense prevail one and all and this impasse must end".

Veteran actors and artists and intellectuals like Aparna Sen, Kaushik Sen, Kausik Ganguly, Riddhi Sen, expressed solidarity with the medical professionals and sought early settlement of the current situation.

Aparna Sen with folded hands among the NRS striking medics appealed to the chief minister, "Please visit at least once here and talk to the doctors and settle the matter."

The chief minster is also the state's health minister.
