Kolkata, Apr 16 (IBNS) Sheikh Akhtar Ali, a local leader of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress, was shot dead in Hoogly district on Saturday, reports said.

The unidentified gunmen reportedly fled the scene.

The death has triggered a massive protest in the district.
