Three passengers injured as Vistara flight gets caught in turbulence 15 mins before landing in Kolkata airport

Kolkata/IBNS:Three passengers travelling in a Vistara flight from Mumbai to Kolkata were injured after severe air turbulence hit the aircraft just before landing on Monday.

The Boeing 737 had 110 passengers on board.

The aircraft encountered turbulence 15 minutes before landing.

"Air Vistara flight UK775 (Boeing 737-800) operating Mumbai(BOM)-Kolkata(CCU) encountered severe turbulence 15 minutes before landing at around 1630 hrs IST on June 7, 2021 (Monday)," an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official told IBNS.

The passengers who received injuries were admitted to Charnock Hospital after a review at the airport medical facility, said officials.

So far, one passenger has been released from hospital while two others are undergoing treatment in different facilities.

"The twin-jet flight took off from Mumbai airport with 110 passengers on board at 1405 hrs IST. Three passengers were injured in the incident and were rushed to hospital," the AAI official added.

According to media reports, a 61-year-old woman passenger's right hand was fractured, a 77-year-old male passenger received a spinal tenderness injury, and a 36-year-old passenger received a minor cut on forehead, said a DGCI official.
