Kolkata, Oct 9 (UNI) Three kids were drowned and a youth went missing during the immersion of Durga idol in two districts of West Bengal, police confirmed on Wednesday.

A report from Malda said three kids drowned when a country boat on way to Ganga to witness the Durga idol immersion capsized in a canal, which was swelling by the river waters, at Kaliachak on Tuesday evening.

The boat was carrying some 40 people when its capsized in the canal.

While most of the people swam to safety, the bodies of the three kids were fished out by the local people in cooperation with the district police.

The mishap happened at Chakbaahdur village under Baisnabnagar police station.

The waters of the rain-fed Ganga also breached some dykes in the area flooding the many lying villages, police said.

A report from Nadia said a youth, identified as Subhomnoy Mondal (24) went missing during immersion of the idols at Jalangi river.
