This is a verdict for BJP: BS Yeddyurappa on Karnataka polls

Bangalore, May 15 (IBNS): With the saffron party emerging as the single largest party in Karnataka, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Chief Ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa on Tuesday said people of the southern state have voted to completely reject the Congress.

Karnataka Assembly poll results were declared on Tuesday.

"This is a verdict for BJP. People have completely rejected the Congress. The fact that Siddaramaiah himself has been voted out in his own constituency shows the anger of people towards the Congress," Yeddyurappa said while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said the people of Karnataka have voted to see a political change in the state.

"People of Karnataka have clearly voted for change. They have responded to the clarion call of PM Modi. Sri Amit Shah's organizational expertise has led us to becoming the single largest party. I thank people for this positive mandate for the BJP," he said.

Attacking the Congress, which is set to form the state government with the JD(S), Yeddyurappa said: "Congress is flatly rejected by people of Karnataka who have voted for change. However Congress is trying to subvert the mandate through dubious means. People of Karnataka won't allow for this to happen. Will consult with central leaders on the next course of action."

In a massive turnaround in the Karnataka politics, the Congress has said it will extend support to former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular) to form the next state government, to keep out of power the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),  which emerged as the single largest party in the assembly polls.

Though the BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the Karnataka polls, it falls short of the majority mark.

According to the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 108 seats, Congress in 72 and JD(S) in 40.

According to the reports, Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi had  talks with JD(S) leaders over a possible coalition government in the state.

The Congress has left the CM's post to the JD(S), report said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party in the assembly polls.
