Hyderabad, Jun 2 (IBNS) India's newest state Telangana, which came into existence a year ago as the 29th province of India carved out of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, completed one year Tuesday as celebrations are planned to cherish the occasion.

Reports said several week long programmes are planned to celebrate the first birthday of Telangana beginning with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao paying tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the people on the occasion.

"My best wishes to the people of Telangana on the occasion of their Statehood Day. My best wishes for the State's development journey," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
A Telangana Run is being organised on Tuesday from Prakasam Stadium to the Telangana Martyrs Memorial in Kothagudem to celebrate the day.

While iconic monuments and buildings of the region from the Charminar and Golconda fort to the Buddha statue are illuminated, a performance by ghazal king Ghulam Ali is also scheduled.

India's 29th state was formed last year after decades of struggle for a separate state.
