Taslima Nasreen meets Rajnath, granted residential visa
New Delhi, Aug 2 (IBNS): Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen on Saturday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh here and said she has been granted residential visa by the Indian government.
Nasreen gifted Singh her book 'Wo Andhere Din'.
"I met Honorable Home Minister Rajnath Singhji this afternoon.Gave him my book 'Wo Andhere Din'.He said,'Aapka Andhere Din Khatam Ho Jayega'," the author tweeted.
She met Singh to request him to allow her to stay for a longer period in India.
"I am very happy. I am very grateful to the government for allowing me to live in this country," she told NDTV.
"I feel at home in India," she added.
Nasreen had earlier expressed her anguish after the government on Wednesday refused her a one-year visa giving instead a temporary permission to stay in India for two months.
Press Council of India Chairperson and former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju welcomed the government's decision and tweeted: "Congratulations to the Govt. of India for giving residential visa to Taslima Nasreen. She is a brave woman who was hounded by fanatics."
