Tapas Pal arrest: TMC attacks Centre

| | Dec 30, 2016, at 10:33 pm
New Delhi, Dec 30 (IBNS): The Trnamool Congress on Friday alleged that the arrest of its MP Tapas Pal is connected with the party's stand against the Centre's move of currency ban.

TMC MP Derek O'Brien tweeted: "Many film stars directors, sports persons r brand ambassadors. So what next ? Those from BIP who are brand ambassadors will also be? Right ?"

"So now political attrocities against those opposed to #NoteBandi and with the movement. We will fight it out," he said.

The Centre on Nov 8 banned old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes. The TMC have been oppositing the move.

TMC leader and West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee was quoted as sating by TMC twitter handle: "These actions of political vendetta are intended to scare Mamata Banerjee, these will never work."
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested actor-turned-Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Tapas Pal in connection with multi-crore Rose Valley financial scam, officials said.

According to reports, after being summoned by the CBI, Tapas Pal along with his wife and counsel visited the Central probe agency's office at CGO Complex in Kolkata's Salt Lake area and after hour-long interrogation, Pal was arrested in the late afternoon as his answers could not satisfy investigators.

"Tapas Pal was the director of Rose Valley's film and entertainment division and a huge amount of money was transferred several times to his bank accounts from the ponzi firm," a CBI official told IBNS.

However, the CBI sources said that Pal would be produced before a local court on Saturday and would be taken to Bhubaneswar on transit remand for further interrogation.

Earlier on Tuesday (Dec 27), the investigation agency summoned Tapas Pal and sent a third notice to another TMC Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay in connection with the same case and they both were asked to visit CGO Complex today (Dec 30) for interrogation.

However, Sudip Bandyopadhyay avoided visiting CBI's office again.

Meanwhile, protesting the arrest, TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee told IBNS, "This is just a political vendetta of BJP-ruled Central government to stop Mamata Banerjee's movement against demonetisation."

"This politics of vengeance can never stop the fight of Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress against BJP and demonetisation," Chatterjee added.
