Chennai, Nov 6 (Just Earth News/IBNS) In yet another boost to the transgender community in India, Chennai's K Prithika Yashini will soon be appointed as a Sub Inspector of Police, according to reports.

The young Computer Applications graduate was born as Pradeep Kumar and later became Prithika after she had a sex change operation.

The implementation order came from the Madras High Court after they deemed her fit for the job. The Court further instructed the Tamil Nadu government to make changes in their law to allow more transgender people into their police force.

Prithika whose dream is to become an IPS officer, told TV reporters, "Yes, I'm very happy for this moment because all over India me (I am) only first trans-gendered Sub Inspector to get the job."

Earlier this year, college teacher Manabi Bandyopadhyay in West Bengal hit the headlines when the professor of philosophy and Bengali was appointed principal at Krishnagar Women's College in the state.
