Tamil Nadu rains : Twelve killed in one week, Schools closed for six days as more rains are on cards
Chennai, Nov 6 (IBNS) : Schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Puducherry and Thiruvalluvar remained shut for the sixth day on Monday because of late monsoon heavy downpour which has left 12 people dead and rendered thousands homeless over the past one week, reports said.
According to the bulletin released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) heavy rain is forecast at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.even on Tuesday.
A Government statement said over 10,000 people were living in 105 state-run relief camps as rains flooded low-lying areas in Chennai and its suburbs on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday discussed the aftermath of the heavy floods in Tamil Nadu with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and assured support on behalf of the Centre.
Residents of Chennai and neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur had some respite from the monsoon rains as the sun shone bright yesterday, raising hopes that stagnant water would recede.
However, waterlogging was reported in some parts of the city and its suburbs like Pallikaranai, Avadi and Semmanchery.
