Tamil Nadu govt writes to Centre seeking ban on 'The Family Man 2' release

Chennai/IBNS: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday wrote to the Centre seeking an immediate ban on the release of The Family Man 2 web series on Amazon Prime OTT platform across the country.

The trailer of the highly-awaited Manoj Bajpai and Samantha starrer show, which was released recently, “depicted the Eelam Tamils in a highly objectionable manner”, the Tamil Nadu government said.

Information Technology Minister T. Mano Thangaraj, in his letter to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar, said, the web series, due to release on June 4, not only hurt the sentiments of Eelam Tamils but also the feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu.

"If allowed to broadcast, it would be prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony in the State," Thangaraj stated.

Contending that the contents of series in Hindi were “condemnable, inappropriate and malicious”, MDMK leader Vaiko said the recently released trailer was aimed at discrediting and distorting the historical struggle of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka.

“The sacrifices of their long drawn out democratic battle has been intentionally undermined and it could not, by any stretch of imagination considered merely as a serial with any value for Tamil Culture. Moreover, a serial, which is loaded with insults and insinuations against the glorious Tamil culture could never be considered as the one having any broadcasting value,” Thangaraj stated.

"It is highly unwarranted for an organisation like Amazon Prime to undertake this kind of smear campaign against the Tamils, who are builders of India as well as many nations across the globe,” the Minister said.

The trailer of the much-awaited web series 'The Family Man 2' was released on Wednesday.

In the second season, Samantha has been roped in to play the main antagonist - a terrorist leader named Raji. The show will also mark her first Hindi project.

The first season of the show was a hit with Manoj Bajpayee playing the leading character of Srikant Tiwari.

The entire story revolves around the life of Srikant, who works for a special division of the National Investigation Agency(NIA) and struggles to strike a balance between his secretive job profile and personal life.

The first season of the Family Man was released in 2019 and since then the fans are early waiting for the second season.

The Family Man series is created and directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.
