Tamil Nadu CM declares drought in state, announces sops for farmers
Chennai, Jan 10 (IBNS) : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Paneerselvam on Tuesday declared the state drought-hit and announced measures worth Rs 510 crore to cope the water crisis, reports said.
The Chief Minister also waived land tax besides announcing many sops for farmers.
The move comes after various farmer associations asked the state Government to declare the districts drought-hit and give them monetary compensation.
A number of farmers in the state have committed suicide following crop failure.
