Bengaluru/UNI: A suspect in the planting of a live bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport surrendered before the DG and IG of Karnataka Police, Neelamani Raju, here on Wednesday, police sources said.

The accused has been identified as one Aditya Rao, a resident of Udupi.

The accused was taken for questioning by the Halasurugate Police, where he was being interrogated intensively, the sources further said.

According to them, he confessed that he planted an explosive device at Mangaluru Airport on Monday said that it was an act of revenge for denying him an employment by the Kempegowda International Airport Limited (KIAL).

He was arrested by the Bengaluru police in the past for making a hoax call to the police stating that a bomb had been planted at the Bengaluru Airport.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Basawaraj Bommai on Wednesday said the accused in the Mangaluru airport bomb case has surrendered and will be punished irrespective of the organisations he belongs to.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said, 'The Mangaluru police have questioned several people and many suspected places searched as part of the probe into finding out the culprit behind the planting of Improvised Explosive Device at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20. However, the accused has surrendered before the police and the cops are interrogating him now.'

He added, 'Irrespective of the organisations the accused belongs to, he will be punished.”

'The probe is progressing well and more details in connection to the case will be revealed after the interrogation,' he added.
