Sushma Swaraj reaches in Dhaka
Swaraj's trip to Bangladesh is her first stand-alone visit abroad as the External Affairs Minister.
"Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Hauqe, Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran and other high officials from the Foreign Ministry and High Commission of India received Sushma Swaraj when she arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 10:50pm," Bangladesh's newspaper The Daily Star reported.
Ahead of her trip, Swaraj spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over phone on Wednesday, media reports said.
Swaraj is scheduled to meet top leaders of the neighbouring nation during her visit.
"During the visit, Smt Swaraj will hold discussions on bilateral issues with the Bangladesh Foreign Minister. She will also call on the President of Bangladesh H.E. Advocate Mr. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister H.E. Sheikh Hasina. She will also have engagement with think tanks, chambers of commerce and industry and cultural organisations. The visit will provide further momentum to the close and friendly relationship between India and Bangladesh," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had earlier said in a statement.
