Sushma, Oommen Chandy indulge in war of words over claims of bearing expenses for Indians' evacuation
New Delhi, May 12 (IBNS): A new controversy has cropped up after both the Centre and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy wants to take credit for the evacuation of 29 Indians from strife-torn Libya.
Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj said the Centre paid for the evacuation process.
"Mr.Chandy - We evacuated thousands of Indians from Kerala from Iraq, Libya and Yemen. Who paid for them ?," she tweeted in a series of posts.
"Mr.Chandy - You said 'Kerala paid for 29 Indians evacuated from Libya," she wrote.
Meanwhile, Chandy claimed that his state bore all the expenses of the evacuation.
Swaraj, who is admitted at hospital, blamed Chandy for starting the debate.
"Mr.Chandy - You started this debate - as to Who paid ? Not me. We always did this because this is our pious duty towards our citizens," she posted.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a rally claimed the credit for the rescue of the 29 Indians from Libya.
