Supreme Court summons chief secretaries of Haryana and Delhi to resolve water supply issues

New Delhi, Apr 19 (IBNS): The Supreme Court of India, on Thursday, directed the Chief Secretaries of Haryana and Delhi to appear before it on April 23 after the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said it was not receiving enough water to supply to national capital, according to media reports.

DJB had approached the apex court alleging that Haryana had reduced the water supply from the Yamuna to the national capital, which was resulting in severe water crisis.

In its pleas, the DJB alleged that Haryana was supplying Delhi only 330 cusec of water daily as against 450 cusec per day, the quantum decided upon between Delhi and Haryana, reports said.

Meanwhile, the Times of India quoted a DJB official as saying, " We are targeting a peak production of 916MGD of potable water by optimising all resources during summer. Normally, our combined capacity is around 900MGD.”
