New Delhi, Aug 19 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Tehelka magazine founder Tarun Tejpal's petition seeking quashing of rape charges against him, media reports said.

Tejpal is accused of raping a junior colleague.

The top court has also said the rape charges are "serious" and directed the Goa court to complete the trial within six months.

Tejpal, the founder-editor of Tehelka, was alleged to have raped a junior colleague in 2013 in a hotel elevator at an annual event organised by the magazine in Goa.

In an internal email, he had claimed that the incident was a “lapse of judgment”.

Tejpal was arrested in 2013. He is out on bail since May 2014.

The accused has also cried political vendetta by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Goa.
