New Delhi, Nov 28 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking stay on the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as special director of  the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), media reports said.

An NGO, Common Cause, had challenged the Gujarat cadre IPS  officer's appointment as "illegal and arbitrary", arguing that his name had been found in a diary seized by the CBI during tax raids on a company.

Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan, representing the NGO, also argued that  Asthana's son worked for the company, Sterling Biotech.
