Supreme Court pulls up automobile dealers for violating BS4 vehicle sales extension order
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) for flouting the exemption given in the sale and registration of BS-4 vehicles.
A division bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra slammed FADA for its violation of the earlier court order that allowed the sale of limited BS-4 vehicles with March 31 deadline.
The Covid-19 lockdown started from March 25 stopped automobile dealerships from exhausting the inventory of BS-4 vehicles before the stricter BS-6 emission standards came into effect from 1 April.
Following this, FADA approached the top court for a two-month extension to sell BS-4 vehicles in the country once the lockdown was lifted. The apex court, in return, gave auto dealerships (except in Delhi-NCR) with an extension of 10 days after the lockdown to sell 10 per cent of the remaining BS-4 inventory.
However, the dealers crossed their deadline for sales and registration of BS-4 vehicles.
While pointing out the violation of the Court order, the bench also asserted that the details of the vehicles sold after March 27, should be made available by FADA to the Road Transport Ministry by Friday.
The court said that it had allowed the sale and registration of 1,05,000 BS-4 vehicles. Now it seems that 2,55,000 vehicles have been sold.
