New Delhi, Aug 26 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday granted a six-week protection from arrest to Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa in a harassment case, according to media reports.

Expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa and her family members were booked for allegedly ill-treating and sexually abusing two domestic helps.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur also wanted to know from the Tamil Nadu government why the state was in a hurry to see Sasikala Pushpa behind bars, media reported.

Sasikala had moved the apex court following the the summons issued against her and other accused persons by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to appear later this month.

However, the SC has instructed the Madurai Bench to decide on her anticipatory bail plea without being influenced by the apex court's protection.
