New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court Friday granted bail to journalist from Kerala, S Kappan, who was arrested in Uttar Pradesh in 2020 while he was on the way to report on a gangrape incident, media reports said.

Kappan, who intended to report on the rape case of a 19-year-old girl in Hathras, was arrested and charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has asked the journalist to report to the Delhi Police for the next six weeks.

Post that, Kappan will have to report to Kerala Police.

The gangrape incident had triggered nationwide outrage in 2020.
