A division bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi directed extension of tenure of the Special CBI Judge of Lucknow trial court, SK Yadav, who is hearing the case.

The trial court judge had in a letter addressed to the Supreme Court sought another six months to complete the trial in the case.

In his letter, the judge stated that he would be retiring on September 30, 2019, and thereby needed more time to wind up the trial.
