Supreme Court asks Goa court to begin trial in Tarun Tejpal sexual assault case

| @indiablooms | Dec 06, 2017, at 06:54 pm

New Delhi, Dec 6 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked a Goa court to begin  trial of Tarun Tejpal, former editor of Tehelka and an accused in sexual assault of a junior colleague, reports said.

The top court  asked the court to conduct examination of the witnesses in the case.

The SC also asked the Bomnay High Court to “expeditiously” decide on Tejpal’s plea for his discharge.

Tejpal was alleged to have raped a junior colleague in 2013 in a hotel elevator at an annual event organised by the magazine in Goa.
In an internal email, he had claimed that the incident was a “lapse of judgment”.

In September, the court in Goa had charged Tejpal with rape, sexual harassment and wrongful restraint.
