Students clash with police in several parts of Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 17 (IBNS) : Heavy clashes between protesters and security forces were reported from different parts of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, on Monday as demonstrations were staged over last week’s Pulwama Degree college incident in which more than 60 students were injured in police action.

Eye witnesses said that police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse  protesting students of SP College on Maulana Azad road in Srinagar, triggering intense clashes.

“We assembled here on the road to protest peacefully and extend our solidarity with the pulwama degree college students,"  Raashid, a  student of SP college told IBNS in Srinagar.

According to police, the protesting students were asked to stage demonstration inside the college campus as the gathering outside was likely to block the road. But they didn’t agree and continued to block the road.

Reports of protests came from Shopian, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara and Ganderbal districts besides the Kashmir University.
