New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday claimed that there is a strong undercurrent against the BJP-led government at the Centre and if the Opposition stands effectively with a vision it will become very difficult for the ruling party to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"If the Opposition stands effectively with a vision it will become very difficult for the BJP to win election. There is a strong undercurrent against the BJP," the MP said referring to the 2024 general elections, while addressing a press conference of 2022 at the party headquarters here.

In response to a question on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's remark that BJP and Congress are same, the former Congress president said, "It is obvious that BJP and Congress can never be one. Congress and BJP is ideological oppose. This is his perspective. There should be a mutual respect."

"All the Opposition leaders are with us. But there are also political compulsions. The doors are open for those who want to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra," he said after asked whether the SP chief would attend the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which will enter into UP next week.

Attacking the BJP government over various issues concerning the public, the Wayanad MP said, "Chinese issue, unemployment, faulty GST and inflation are the weaknesses of this government."

On India-China border situation, the MP said, "We should not take this casually. Our government completely mishandled the China issue."

He added, "Congress' central concept was to never allow China and Pakistan. This we did successfully till UPA-II. Today, Pakistan and China has become one. This is dangerous as they will do something. This has happened because our government mishandled the foreign policy."

The Wayanad MP said the government should start its preparations to tackle any situation.
