Srinagar encounter: 2 militants, a CRPF jawan killed, 1 ultra caught alive

Srinagar/UNI: Two militants and a CRPF jawan were killed while one ultra was caught alive during an encounter which ensued in the outskirts of city on Srinagar-Baramulla road on Wednesday.

A CRPF spokesperson told UNI that panic gripped at Lawapora, about 12 km from here on Srinagar-Baramulla road today when three motorcycle-borne militants fired upon a CRPF naka checking.

He said security forces retaliated ensuing in a brief exchange of fire in which two militants and one Central Reserve Police Force soldier named Ramesh Ranjan, were killed. “Two CRPF jawans were also injured in the exchange of fire,” he said, adding the duo was rushed to a hospital where one of them succumbed.

He said one militant, who was also injured, was caught alive and is being questioned.

Traffic on Srinagar to Baramulla and world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was suspended, sources said, adding vehicles were asked to take alternative route.
