Srinagar by-polls: Three killed, several injured as mobs ransack booths

Srinagar, Apr 9 (IBNS): With the by-polls being underway in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, at least three youths were killed and several others got injured when security forces allegedly opened fire at stone-pelting protesters outside a polling booth in Budgam district of central Kashmir on Sunday.

The by-polls of the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat witnessed a mere 5 percent turnout till 12 noon.

According to reports, hundreds of protesters stormed a polling station at Pakherpora in Chrar-e-Sharief area of Budgam district and ransacked the building.

Initially, the police fired some shots as warning to disperse off the protesters.

Police reportedly used teargas shells on protesters which resulted in the injury of many youths.

The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital where Mohammad Abbas and Faizan Ahmed Rather succumbed to his injuries.

More than 1,500 polling stations have been set up for the by-polls.

Nearly 12.61 lakh electorate are eligible to take part in the election process.
