Sridevi death: Dubai Police records Boney Kapoor's statement, delay in return of actor's body

Mumbai, Feb 26 (IBNS): As fans and celebrities await legendary actress Sridevi's mortal remains to return to India, the Dubai Police on Monday recorded her husband Boney Kapoor's statement in connection with the case.

Sridevi's mortal remains are unlikely to reach Mumbai before Tuesday since the clearance for repatriation has been delayed, said reports.

Earlier in the evening, a new twist was added to Sridevi's death case with the forensic test revealing that the silver screen goddess expired as a result of 'accidental drowning' in her hotel room's bathtub.

In fact some media reports also claimed that traces of alcohol have been found in her blood in the autopsy report.

In a tweet, the Dubai Police wrote:

According to Khaleej Times, the Dubai police is conducting an ongoing probe at the place of death, and the room at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, in which she was staying, has been sealed.

While the previous media reports claimed that Sridevi was in a bathtub inside the hotel bathroom when she suffered a cardiac arrest, the autopsy report on Monday changed the dimension of the case.

According to reports, the Dubai Police has questioned not only Boney Kapoor but the hotel staff, and others present at the time of death.

Bonny Kapoor, who was incidentally present in the same room, forced his entry to the bathroom after getting no response from his wife for sometime.

After Kapoor failed to revive Sridevi, the actress was taken to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, several celebrities flocked to the residence of her brother-in-law Anil Kapoor.

Among those who visited the Kapoors to express their grief were filmmakers Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and others such as Resul Pookutty, Saroj Khan and Honey Irani.

However, chances of bringing her mortal remains back to Mumbai by Monday midnight are slim.

The remains would reportedly be brought back onboard a chartered aircraft belonging to Anil Ambani.

Ahead of her sudden death, Sridevi was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah.

Boney Kapoor, who was also with her, returned back to Dubai only to surprise Sridevi on the day she had died.

Following the surfacing of the news of Sridevi's death, the entire country had mourned since Saturday night.

From PM Modi to Bollywood stars, everyone took to social media and other platforms to offer condolences.
