Sonowal asks all DCs to take weekly review of NRC updation process

Guwahati, Jan 5 (IBNS): Issuing a stringent direction to officials to prepare an error free National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the interest of the indigenous people of Assam, state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked for correct verification of 6.5 crore documents submitted for NRC update by the people.

Charing a review meeting of NRC update process on Thursday at conference room of CM Secretariat Sonowal asked the top officials of State NRC to visit the districts so that no error remains in the final NRC.
          
The Assam CM directed the Deputy Commissioners to take weekly review of the NRC updating work in their districts so that the process of updation can be completed within the stipulated time.
          
Sonowal also informed that Central Government would be requested to set up a branch office of the Register General of India in the state where an officer in the rank of Deputy Register would be employed to expedite the whole process of NRC update.

He directed the Chief Secretary of the state to take necessary action in this regard.
             
Stating that there would not be any paucity of fund in carrying out NRC update activities, Sonowal said that the government has accorded highest priority in preparing an error free NRC so that interest of the indigenous people is safeguarded and he has directed all officials involved in NRC and specially DCs and SPs of all districts to work dedicatedly to complete the process within time.
          
Press Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Chief Secretary V.K.Pipersenia, NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela and other top officials were present in the meeting.
