Social distancing, avoiding mass gatherings are considered as golden principles to reduce lethal blow of Coronavirus: Sonowal

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said that in the absence of any vaccination to stop the epidemic of novel Coronavirus, social distancing and avoiding all social gatherings are considered as the golden principles to reduce the lethal blow of the virus.

He also appealed people to adhere to the lockdown called by the Prime Minister and asked Nalbari district administration to work in unison with food and civil supplies and agriculture department to maintain the supply chain so that people have the reach to essential commodities remaining inside their home.

Chairing a review meeting to see the preparedness of Nalbari district administration to deal with the situation arising out of COVID-19 outbreak at the conference hall of DC office, Nalbari, Sonowal asked Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury to maintain close liaison with all line departments to make the lockdown a complete success.

The Assam Chief Minister also observed that people will adhere to the lockdown protocol if essential commodities of their daily requirements are served seamlessly and asked the district administration to be on its toes to provide all essential commodities including poultry and fish to the people of the district.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner to keep the control room of the district active on 24x7 basis and allot duties in the control room in accordance with the shifts so that nobody has to work more than 8 hours a day.

Sonowal urged upon the control room officials to maintain a human approach and render help to the people on a real time basis.

During the visit, the Chief Minister also distributed masks among common people at the DC office premises.

Minister of Industry & Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary, MPs Dilip Saikia and Biswajit Daimary, MLAs Ashok Sarma and Bimal Bora, Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury, SP Amanjit Kaur and other senior officers of other departments were present in the meeting.

The Assam Chief Minister had also visited Baksa district and reviewed the preparedness of the district administration to fight against COVID-19.
